IMS Awards
In an attempt to encourage young researchers and appreciate good research work, the Indian Mathematical Society has instituted Awards for research publications in specific areas. On the basis of donations received from Individuals or group of Individuals, corpus fund is created for such awards. Each of these awards will carry a cash prize and a citation. The IMS Council reserves the right to alter the cash prize amounts as and when it is required. At present IMS has the following awards:

A. M. Mathai Award
Satish Bhatnagar Award
Subhash Bhatt Award
P. K. Jain Award
B. N. Waphare Award


A. K. AGARWAL AWARD
A. K. Agarwal Award has been instituted by the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS) for the best research paper published in any of the areas from Number theory, Combinatorics, Discrete mathematics, Analysis and Algebra. A corpus fund of Rs 2.25 lakh (with initial instalment of Rs 1.2 lakh on January 4, 2015 and later augmented in two more instalments to its present amount) was made available to the IMS by Prof A. K. Agarwal, Centre for Advanced Study in Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Call for award is to be given every year. It carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand only)

Terms and Conditions

(a) The paper should be in any of the following areas:
Number Theory, Combinatorics, Discrete mathematics, Analysis and Algebra

(b) The paper should have been published either online or in print in an internationally reputed journal during the previous year to the year of Annual Conference in which award is to be conferred, e.g., for the award to be given in the Annual Conference of the year 2020, the papers published in 2019 will be considered.

(c) The paper should be under the authorship of at most two authors and at least one of them should be below the age of 45 years as on 31st December of the year of the award.

(d) In the case of joint authorship of the awarded paper, the prize amount will be equally divided between the two authors.

(e) The author(s) should be Indian citizen and must have carried out the said research work in India.

(f) The author(s) can submit only one publication for this award and the paper should not have been submitted for any other award anywhere.

(g) The awardee (the younger one in case of joint authorship) may be invited to deliver a lecture / make a poster presentation based on the awarded paper in the Annual Conference of the IMS and he will be reimbursed TA to the extent of 2-AC return train fare from his/her place of residence in India to the venue of the Conference. The awardee will also be provided free local hospitality during the period of conference by the host institute.

Modus operandi:

(i) The General Secretary will invite applications for the A. K. Agarwal Award and the applications should reach him by June 30 of the year in which the award is to conferred.

(ii) The papers from all the contestants will be judged by three experts who will be named by the General Secretary in consultation with the Academic Secretary and the Editors in Chief of JIMS and MS.

(iii) The decision of the IMS shall be final and shall not be challenged in a court of law.

(iv) If there is no suitable quality paper in a particular year then the award need not be given in that year.

A. M. MATHAI AWARD
A. M. Mathai Award has been instituted by the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS) for the best research paper published in Applicable Mathematics (preferably having applications in other fields). A corpus fund of Rs 5.0 lakh was made available to the IMS on July 7, 2015 by Prof A. M. Mathai, Director Centre for Mathematical and Statistical society, Peechi, Kerala and Emeritus Professor McGill University, Canada. Call for the award is to be given every year. It carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs.25000 (Twenty Five thousand only).

Terms and Conditions

(a) The paper should contain significant contributions in Applicable Mathematics preferably having applications in other fields such as Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, Probability and Statistics etc.

(b) The paper should have been published either online or in print in an internationally reputed journal during the previous year to the year of Annual Conference in which award is to be conferred e.g. for the award to be given in the Annual Conference of the year 2020, the papers published in 2019 will be considered.

(c) The paper should be under the single authorship and the author should be below the age of 45 years as on 31st December of the year of the award.

(e) The author need not be Indian Citizen but should be associated with any University/ College/ Institute in India and the affiliation of the author in the paper must reflect it.

(f) The author can submit only one publication for this award and the paper should not have been submitted for any other award anywhere..

(g) The awardee may be invited to deliver a lecture/ make a poster presentation based on the awarded paper in the Annual Conference of the IMS and he will be reimbursed TA to the extent of 2-AC return train fare from his/her place of residence in India to the venue of the Conference. The awardee will also be provided free local hospitality during the period of conference by the host institute.

SATISH BHATNAGAR AWARD
Satish Bhatnagar Award has been instituted by the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS) for the best research paper in the area of History of Mathematics in India. A corpus fund of Rs3.0 lakh (with initial instalment of Rs 2.0 lakh on October 5, 2016 and later augmented to the present amount) was made available to the IMS by Prof Satish Bhatnagar, Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, NV 89154-4020, USA. Call for award is to be given every year. It carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs.10,000 (Rupees ten thousand only).

Terms and Conditions

(a) The paper should be History of Mathematics in India focussing on a person/ problems/ region/system of education/ government.

(b) The paper should have been published either online or in print in an internationally reputed journal during the previous year to the year of Annual Conference in which award is to be conferred e.g., for the award to be given in the Annual Conference of the year 2020, the papers published in 2019 will be considered.

(c) The paper should be under the authorship of at most two authors and both of them should be above the age of 35 years as on 31st December of the year of the award.

(d) In the case of joint authorship of the awarded paper, the prize amount will be equally divided between the two authors.

(e) The author(s) need not be Indian citizen(s) but must have a Ph D degree in any subject.

(f) The author(s) can submit only one publication for this award and the paper should not have been submitted for any award anywhere.

(g) The awardee (the younger one in case of joint authorship) may be invited to deliver a lecture/ make a poster presentation based on the awarded paper in the Annual Conference of the IMS and he will be reimbursed TA to the extent of 2-AC return train fare from his/her place of residence in India to the venue of the Conference.No International Travel will be supported. The awardee will also be provided free local hospitality during the period of conference by the host institute.

(i) The General Secretary will invite applications for the Satish Bhatnagar Award and the applications should reach him by June 30 of the year in which the award is to conferred.

(ii) The papers from all the contestants will be judged by three experts who will be named by the General Secretary in consultation with the Academic Secretary and the Editors in Chief of JIMS and MS.

(iii) The decision of the IMS shall be final and shall not be challenged in a court of law.

(iv) If there is no suitable quality paper in a particular year then the award need not be given in that year.

SUBHASH BHATT AWARD
Subhash Bhatt Award has been instituted by the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS) for the best research paper published in the area of Functional Analysis and related areas. A corpus fund of Rs 5.00 lakh was made available to the IMS by Mrs. Dr. Sujata Bhatt on January 11, 2021 in the memory of her husband Late Prof Subhash J. Bhatt, former Professor and Head, Department of Mathematiccs, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat. A call for the award is to be given every year. It carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs.25,000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand only).

Terms and Conditions

(a) The paper should be in the area of Functional Analysis/ Harmonic Analysis/ Operator Theory and related areas.

(b) The paper should have been published either online or in print in an internationally reputed journal during the previous year to the year of Annual Conference in which award is to be conferred e.g. for the award to be given in the Annual Conference of the year 2020, the papers published in 2019 will be considered.

(c) The paper should be under the authorship of at most two authors and at least one of them should be below the age of 45 years as on 31st December of the year of the award.

(d) In the case of joint authorship of the awarded paper, the prize amount will be equally divided between the two authors.

(e) The author(s) should be Indian citizen and must have carried out the said research work in India.

(f) The author(s) can submit only one publication for this award and the paper should not have been submitted for any other award anywhere.

(g) The awardee (the younger one in case of joint authorship) may be invited to deliver a lecture/ make a poster presentation based on the awarded paper in the Annual Conference of the IMS and he will be reimbursed TA to the extent of 2-AC return train fare from his/her place of residence in India to the venue of the Conference. (iii) The decision of the IMS shall be final and shall not be challenged in a court of law.

(iv) If there is no suitable quality paper in a particular year then the award need not be given in that year.

P. K. JAIN AWARD
P. K. Jain Award has been instituted by the Indian Mathematical SocietySubhash Bhatt Award winners (IMS) for the best research paper published in the subject of Analysis and related areas. A corpus fund of Rs 5.00 lakh was made available to the IMS by Prof. Pankaj Jain on March 15, 2021 in the memory of Prof P. K. Jain, former Professor, and Head, Department of Mathematics, University of Delhi. A Call for the award is to be given every year. It carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs.25,000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand only).

Terms and Conditions

(a) The paper should be in any of the following areas:
Functional Analysis/ Complex Analysis/Harmonic Analysis/ Function Theory and related areas.

(b) The paper should have been published either online or in print in an internationally reputed journal during the previous year to the year of Annual Conference in which award is to be conferred e.g. for the award to be given in the Annual Conference of the year 2020, the papers published in 2019 will be considered.

(iv) If there is no suitable quality paper in a particular year then the award need not be given in that year.

B. N. WAPHARE AWARD
B. N. Waphare Award has been instituted by the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS) for the best research paper published in the area of Lattice Theory, Graph Theory, Combinatorics, Non-commutative rings and related areas. A corpus fund of Rs 7.10869 lakhs was made available to the IMS as on March 31, 2022 by the students, colleagues and well-wishers of Prof. B. N. Waphare, Professor, Department of Mathematics, S. P. Pune University, Pune. It carries a citation and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees Twenty Five thousand only). The call inviting applications for the award will be made every year.

Terms and Conditions

(a) The paper should contain significant contributions in the areas of
(i) Lattice Theory, Partially Ordered Sets and related areas,
(ii) Graph Theory, Matroid Theory, Combinatorics and related areas and,
(iii) Non-commutative rings and rings with involution, Baer *-rings and related areas.
Preference will be given to areas listed in (i), (ii) and (iii) above respectively in the following years. In case a paper is not found suitable in the stipulated area of research then the paper for award may be considered from other areas also.
The cycle will be repeated.

(b) The paper should have been published either online or in print in an internationally reputed journal during the previous year to the year of Annual Conference in which the award is to be conferred e.g. for the award to be given in the Annual Conference of the year 2020, the papers published in 2019 will be considered.

(c) The paper should be under the authorship of at most two authors and there is no age limit. In the case of joint authorship of the awarded paper, the prize amount will be equally divided between the two authors.

(d) The award is open to an Indian Citizen or to a person of Indian Origin (PIO) .

(e) The author can submit only one publication for this award and the paper should not have been submitted for any other IMS award.

(f) The author(s) can submit only one publication for this award and the paper should not have been submitted for any other award anywhere.

(i) The General Secretary will invite applications for the B. N. Waphare Award and the applications should reach him/her by June 30 of the year in which the award is to be conferred.

(ii) The papers from all the contestants will be judged by three experts who will be named by the General Secretary in consultation with the Academic Secretary and the Editors in Chief of JIMS and MS.

(iii) The decision of the IMS shall be final and shall not be challenged in a court of law.

(iv) If there is no suitable quality paper in a particular year then the award need not be given in that year.
