IMS Library

The Library of the Indian Mathematical Society is housed in the Campus of the Ramanujan Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, University of Madras, Chennai-600 005, Tamil Nadu. It has rich collection of back numbers of reputed Mathematical

Journals published all over the world and it provides useful service to the members of the Society all over India. In fact, on request by a member, it mails Books/Journals/photocopies of the articles at the cost of the member. The Library also helps its members to locate articles that are not available in the IMS Library, but are available in other libraries in Chennai. At present, the Library is receiving 84 periodicals on exchange basis. For further information, one may contact Professor S. Parvathi, Librarian, IMS and Director of the Institute.

Centenary Year of the IMS.

The Society was founded in April 1907 by the late Shri Ramaswamy Aiyer with its head quarters at Pune. The Library of the Society was started in 1907 at Ferguson College, Pune with Wrangler R. P. Paranjape as its first Librarian. It was in 1950 that the Library was shifted to its present place. In the light of this, it is worthwhile and very appropriate that the Centenary Year Annual Conference of the Society is held at Pune.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Poona has very kindly invited the Society to hold its Centenary Year 73rd Annual Conference at the Department of Mathematics, University of Poona. The Council has very gladly accepted this invitation.

Centenary Year Celebrations As the IMS completes 100 years of its establishment in 2007, the Council has decided that the following events/activities be organized as “IMS Centenary Celebrations” during the year.

2. One week workshop at HRI, Allahabad for research students and College /University teachers. Convener : Prof. Satya Deo.

3. People of Indian Origin Abroad be approached for Donations. Prof. Satya Deo and Dr. S. B. Nimse to take necessary action in the matter.

4. Special Centenary Volumes of JIMS (with stress on publishing open problems) and MS (with stress on publishing surveys of various research areas) be published.

The following members are to take necessary action in the matter :

JIMS : Professor N. K. Thakare. (Convener). Professor Satya Deo (HRI, Allahabad) and Professor R. B. Bapat. (ISI, Delhi).

MS : Professor J. R. Patadia. (Convener). Professor R. Sridharan (CMI, Chennai) and Professor Sarva Jit Singh. (Delhi).
