The Library of the Indian Mathematical Society was started in 1907 at the Fergusson College,
Pune, with Senior Wrangler Principal R. P. Paranjpye as its first Librarian.

In 1950, the Library was shifted to Madras (Chennai),
and is now housed in the Campus of the Ramanujan Institute for
Advanced Study in Mathematics, University of Madras, Chennai-600 005.

On the Inaugural Day, the Sunday, December 27, 2009, of this Platinum Jubilee 75th Annual Conference of the Society, in the afternoon at 4.00 p.m. the special "Commemorative Stamp Release Function" was organized.

The Department of Posts (Philately Division), Government of India, issued a postal stamp in commemoration of the completion of 100 years of the Indian Mathematical Society. This stamp was released by Shri. K. Ramachandiran, Postmaster General, Southern Region, Madurai, and was received by “Kalvivallal” Thiru T. Kalasalingam, Chancellor, Kalasalingam University. This is a historic event in the annals of the Indian Mathematical Society.
